Black Tie Collection – Your Questions Answered

With all of the excitement of the release of our Black Tie collection at the end of this week, we wanted to answer some of your potential questions regarding sizing of the items and the washing/care instructions. So, we decided to write a blog post that should answer all of your questions. If you still have questions, please feel free to email us at info@taylorjoelle.com.
This collection will be available to order on June 28, 2013 (tomorrow!!!)
Washing & Care:
We recommend machine washing on cold and lay flat to dry for all items in this collection, other than the tie, which should be spot cleaned to avoid it coming untied.
Sizing:
The collection as a whole is pretty true to size. We are starting to do more of our items in even sizes. So if you are confused about what to order, we would suggest that a 2 is more of a 2/3 and 4 is more of a 4/5 a 6 is more 6/7 etc. If the item does not fit, we do offer refunds or exchanges. You would just need to pay to ship it to us.
Here are some specific details:

Kids Street Style – Bow Leggings!

Children are the ideal focus for street style blog posts because they are so natural, they wear what they like without much worry about what anyone else thinks. They use their style as a way to express themselves, rather than fit in with the trends like most adults try to do. Kids can dress without rules or worrying about what is “in style” at the time. They can get away with so much more when it comes to fashion!

This week we are featuring our very own Taylor Joelle!
Leggings are from the Black Tie Collection by Taylor Joelle Designs, which releases THIS WEEK on June 28th! Dress is by nextdirect.com
Do you have a little fashionista or stylin’ boy? Submit their photo for a chance to be featured on our blog. Email all submissions to brooke@taylorjoelleblog.com. Please include details about where you found the items that they are wearing in the photo. They do not need to be wearing Taylor Joelle, but they can be.

Bow Bun Hair Tutorial

Our Black Tie collection releases on June 28th and we could not be more excited! We saw this adorable bow bun that would compliment the Black Tie collection so well, so we had to share it with you. Thanks to Jenny’s friend Heidi for the awesome tutorial!
Supplies needed: Comb, Hair band, Bobby pins, Topsy Tail tool if you have one

Start by making the beginning of a pony tail
Twist your hair tie around like you are doing a pony tail but on the last twist loop hair into your hair tie like a bun with some hair hanging down below

Split hair from bun into two parts, as equal as you can

Take your topsy tail tool and put down into the top of the pony tail, if you do not have a tool just make a small hole at the top of the pony tail with your fingers

Grab the hair that was left down under you pony tail and fish it through your topsy tail tool or push it down through the hold you made with your fingers like you are doing a normal topsy tail
Pull topsy tail tool or hair all the way down until the hair pulls back through the bottom

Bow bun will look like this from the back

Use bobby pins to pin down any loose hair and to also pin the hair that is hanging down at the bottom. Bobby pins also help to keep the hair loops of the bow in place

Tada.. you now have a cute girly bow bun

DIY Furniture Makeovers with Chalk Paint

Ever heard of Annie Sloan chalk paint? Furniture painting seems to be the thing to do these days, and Annie Sloan makes it incredibly easy with her chalk paint. Got some free time on your hand? Here’s a challenge. Find an old piece of furniture you have around the house, could be a bedside table, a chair, a dresser, book shelf etc. Don’t have any furniture lying around you want to change? Head over to your local thrift shop, or check out the yard sales in your area.

Here’s a picture of the table I decided to paint:

Step 1: Clean the surface of your furniture with a soapy rag and dry surface

Step 2: Start covering the area with the chalk paint of your choice. No priming needed! This table has a laminate top, can you believe it? I was able to paint this laminate table with no priming.

Step 3: If it needs another coat, do that. Chalk paint shouldn’t need nearly as many coats regular paint. This drys super fast (takes about 20 minutes).

Step 4: Time to wax. I use clear wax. Use Annie Sloan’s wax over top of the paint. As you wax an area, buff it with a towel or a cloth. If you don’t buff it, the surface will stay pretty sticky.

Step 5:  Let it sit a few days to cure. And here is my finished table.

Can you believe what a transformation that is? Videos and more guided information can be found here:

My mom, is hooked on chalk paint. Here are a few images of what she has completed:

How cute is this bench? Pictured in photo: my mom and nephew

I love this paint because I am expecting a baby, and it is pretty much odor free, so I do not feel like it’s unsafe for the baby.
