Fashion Blogs We Love – My Style Diaries

My Style Diaries is an interactive fashion blog that aims to help every day people with their fashion dilemmas. They want personal styling to be something that anyone can attain, not just celebrities.  If you don’t know what to wear for a big event, a date, or just want help putting together a new look – they are here for you! Nikki, who started My Style Diaries, is a fashion expert that is here to help! You can browse the site for daily inspiration, or you can email directly with your question. We asked Nikki to put together a few looks for kids, and we LOVE what she came up with! All of the items in these looks are from HM.com

For the Girls: Does this romper come in my size? Nothing is more adorable to me than a little girl in a denim playsuit, except of course if said denim playsuit is paired with floral peep-toe espadrille flats and a straw hat. For a second fun spring look, scoop up this on-trend floral dress paired with light denim sandals. And what little girl doesn’t love her accessories? A heart-shaped straw purse and mini-me bangles will make any little one feel tres chic.

For the Boys: Keep it simple! For dressing up, a striped button-down paired with navy shorts is perfect for your little preppy guy in training. For work and play, these miniature striped board shorts, a graphic tee and a zip-up hoodie are laidback basics that will keep any little boy cool, comfortable, and ready for his first playground crush.

We wanted our readers to get to know Nikki a little better, and for her to offer all of you a little fashion advice right here on the Taylor Joelle blog. So, we asked her a few questions about My Style Diaries, her fashion inspiration, and advice for parents shopping for kids. I think you will find her to be very insightful. I know that I did!

What made you want to start My Style Diaries?

I had just quit my job in fashion public relations, and I was looking for both a creative outlet and something to add to my resume. I came up with the concept of My Style Diaries because I didn’t feel like there were any interactive fashion blogs out there that allowed readers input into what they wanted to see. I allow my readers to write in with their own fashion dilemmas, and I really do try to create an outfit for every single person who writes in. It has become very time-consuming (and addictive!), so I decided to focus all of my attention on it and try to make it my full-time job. A year later, I couldn’t be happier about that decision.

What trends are you seeing for spring and summer?

Color, color, color! From buttery pastels to bright neons, I can’t get enough of the spring and summer color palette. Color-blocking is still big and incorporates the it colors of the season. Bold patterns, including lots of vivid florals, are being seen on everything from dresses to denim, and they are a great way to update your wardrobe this year.

Where do you get your fashion inspiration?

I’m inspired by literally everything around me. I scour magazines, runway reports, television and movie wardrobes, and I love interesting street style. I’m really inspired by other bloggers as well, and I love the amazing sense of community there is in the fashion blogosphere.

What advice would you give to parents shopping for their children?

More than anything, I do think that children’s fashion should be functional. (I love an adorably dressed toddler as much as anyone, but fashion shouldn’t inhibit a child’s ability to play.) Dressing your child can be an extension of your own style, but there are ways to do it that are both affordable and functional.
If you are looking for fashion inspiration for yourself or your kids for a big event, a party, or just because it’s Friday, check out My Style Diaries. I think I may just be sending in a request for advice on what to wear to my 10 year high school reunion this summer!
